How to Program a Sharp Remote

If you've recently replaced a component in your home entertainment center, such as your television or cable box, your Sharp universal remote won't work with the device until you program it. The procedures for programming a universal remote usually change depending on remote model, even within a single brand; Sharp remotes are no exception to this rule, so when programming your Sharp remote, make sure to use the instructions for your specific model.

Step 1

Turn on the device you want to program your remote to work with.

Depress and hold the "Channel +" button on your remote; at the same time, depress and hold the "Cable/Sat" or "TV" button.

Release the buttons after waiting at least five seconds. Point the remote at the device you're trying to program. This remote works only with VCRs, cable boxes and televisions.

Step 4

Enter the appropriate two-digit code for your cable box or TV. The code list is available online. Depress the device button, then let it go.

Depress the power button to complete the process. Test your remote's programming by turning your device on and off with the remote.

Step 1

Turn on the device, which will be a TV or DVD player, that you want to program the remote to work with.

Depress the device power button, which will be the "TV Power" or "DVD Power" button.

Step 3

Enter the appropriate four-digit code for your device using the number pad on the remote. The codes are available online.

Step 4

Point your remote at the device you just programmed it to work with. Turn the device off and on using the remote to make sure the programming process worked.
