Moss spreads quickly, covering other plants and items in your yard.

Moss has a tendency to grow and climb over anything in your yard, including your decking and patio. Salt is commonly used as a home remedy to kill moss, but only certain types of salt work effectively on the problem.

Use liquid products that contain potassium salts such as Safer Brand. Connect the bottle to the hose and liberally spray the product on any moss in your yard.

Potassium salts kill moss in your yard but shouldn't harm animals, plants or grass in the surrounding areas. It's also safe to use on wood decking, patios and other surfaces. It won't damage paint or any other products it touches.

Regular table salt has little to no effect on moss. Bleach is recommended to treat moss because it breaks down into salt crystals in the sun, and even that salt won't damage the moss. Only potassium salts kill moss.
