It is vital to promptly clean coffee stains.

If you spill coffee on the couch, you face a stubborn brown stain that can ruin the upholstery. Soaking up the spilled coffee helps minimize the severity of the stain. With excess liquid wiped away, most coffee stains disappear when blotted with water and a few drops of dish detergent. A dry-cleaning solvent makes tougher stains disappear.

Step 1

Soak up spilled coffee with a towel while the coffee is still wet. If you let the coffee soak into the couch, the stain becomes much more difficult to remove.

Step 3

Blot the coffee spill with the soapy towel. The coffee stain starts to lighten. As the towel soaks up the coffee, wring out the liquid into a bowl or sink.

Step 4

Apply more soapy water to the coffee until the stain is no longer visible. Wet a clean towel with cool water, then blot the couch to remove the soap.

Step 5

Use dry-cleaning solvent on the stain if dish detergent does not fully remove it.
