You can repair a sagging couch as a DIY project.

The easiest way to fix a sagging sofa is to cut a piece of plywood and then place the plywood under the cushions. However, if your cushions permanently attach to the sofa, this easy option is not possible. You must take the harder route by repairing the couch from underneath. Although more time consuming, it will offer a professional and long-lasting repair to your furniture.

Step 2

Inspect the framing that holds the springs in place. Often, the framing breaks and causes the springs to sag. Locate each broken board.

Step 3

Cut a piece of 1-by-2-inch board to the same length as the broken board with a miter saw.

Step 4

Straighten the broken board out so the board runs in a straight line. Place the new board over the broken board so the new board runs the length of the broken board.

Step 5

Drill a pilot hole every 6 inches down the full length of the new board and then drive wood screws through the new board and into the broken board with a screwdriver. The new board acts as a splint and adds rigidity to the couch.

Step 2

Locate the broken springs inside the couch. They are easy to locate because they no longer press between the support beams in the couch. Remove all of the broken springs.

Step 3

Place a spring compressor tool onto each side of the replacement spring and then compress the tool by turning the handles with a wrench.

Step 4

Place the spring between the supports and then turn the handle on the compression tools counterclockwise. Remove the compression tools from the spring to hold it in place.

Step 5

Place the cover onto the bottom of the couch and staple it in place with a staple gun.
