How to Hook a Garden Hose to a Washing Machine

You live somewhere that doesn't have an interior water hookup for a washing machine, or you do have a washing machine hookup but you don't have a washing machine hose. Either way, you need to know how to hook a garden hose to a washing machine. It's simple, and if you don't already have the parts you need, they're inexpensive and easy to obtain. The couplings used on washing machine hoses are essentially the same couplings used on an average garden hose, insofar as the threads used to screw the hose onto the washing machine are the same on both.

Step 1

Wrap plumber's tape clockwise around the threads of the male end of the garden hose. Insert the male end of the garden hose into the cold water inlet connection coupler on the washing machine.

Step 2

Twist the washing machine coupler connection clockwise around the garden hose while firmly holding the garden hose in place, and twist the coupler until it is tight. Tighten the connection a quarter turn more.

Step 3

Wrap plumber's tape clockwise around the threads of the cold water interior water hookup for the washing machine, or around the threads of the exterior water spigot. Tighten the female end, or coupler connection, of the garden hose onto the water hookup for the washing machine. Tighten a quarter turn more.

Step 4

Wrap plumber's tape clockwise around the threads of the male end of the hot water hose. Insert the male end of the hot water hose into the hot water inlet coupler on the washing machine.

Step 5

Twist the washing machine coupler connection clockwise around the hot water hose while firmly holding the hot water hose in place, and twist the coupler until it is tight. Tighten a quarter turn more.

Step 6

Wrap plumber's tape clockwise around the threads of the hot water interior water hookup for the washing machine, or around the exterior hot water spigot. Tighten the female end, or coupler connection, of the hot water hose onto the water hookup for the washing machine. Tighten a quarter turn more.

Step 7

Turn on or open the valve to the cold water hookup. Turn on or open the hot water valve to the hot water hookup.
