IKEA is thinking a lot about how to create more sustainable products lately and a new project proves that you can be both eco-conscious and stylish.

The Swedish retailer joined forces with Netherlands-based denim brand MUD Jeans to create sofa covers made entirely of recycled denim, making them unique pieces. Designed for use with the Klippan sofa, the limited-edition collection is available in a soothing blue hue.

"Each new KLIPPAN sofa cover contains 40% of post-consumer recycled denim, equivalent to two pairs of old jeans," the retailer explains in a press release. "Compared to the industry standard denim method, each cover made with this post-consumer denim saves 27,000 litres of water and reduces the carbon footprint by 67%."

Though it's currently only being sold in nine European markets, we're crossing our fingers that the retailer considers an expansion. There are plenty of US brands that could help. Take for example, last year's West Elm x Eileen Fisher collaboration that used previously-owned denim to create pillow covers and an eye-catching chair.

It looks like the future of upcycled furniture design might look a little, well, denim.
