Meanwhile, Natalie Sideserf of Sideserf Cake Studio in Austin, TX has been impressing the internet with baking skills that are ... let's just say ... on another level. Like, a level that isn't even human.
Many of her cakes are hyperrealistic representations of objects. She's done cakes that look like romaine lettuce, an oyster of a half-shell, a lemon, an eggplant, macaroni and cheese, even an onion with flaky layers.
So how does she do it? Her secrets include food-safe silicone putty to take molds from real objects, modeling chocolate, gelatin, wafer paper, and paint-blending techniques.
But one of our favorite tutorials is a recent video she did that feels very on-topic: an empty toilet paper roll cake.
