Amy Sedaris recently let New York magazine into her small, one-bedroom Greenwich Village apartment, and it is AWESOME. Wall-to-wall color, fabulous trinkets, patterns galore ... it reminds us what a treasure Amy is. You should naturally watch the entire video several times — as we did, chuckling with delight — but here are our favorite bits:
1. The security deposit philosophy.
She got help with the design for the apartment with her friend Todd Oldham (God of '90s design), who, according to Amy, says, "If you rent an apartment, it's great because you'll never get your security deposit back, so just figure that it's gonna cost you $1,800 to do whatever the heck you wanna do to your house ..." It's what Oldham calls "personality fees."
2. Tina, Amy's rabbit. Who she found out is actually a boy.
He has "free range" of Amy's house and has chewed through her furniture and even her bedding. Hence, all the patches on her upholstery.
3. Her wig lamp.
It's made out of hair samples from her favorite wig store.
4. She's got a good point about color-coordinating your books.
"It's hard to get rid of books, because you're like, oh, I really need that pink book because I need that pink row up there ... "
5. Her craft room.
Which she calls "the baby's room."
6. Her pink paper towels.
What?! Amazing. They apparently also come in indigo (but you can only get them in London).
