To us, it feels like yesterday that Pantone's 2018 color of the year — Ultra Violet — was released. But, alas, another year has passed. And with it comes an equally bright shade for 2019 — Living Coral.
The 20th edition of the color company's annual selection was just announced at Art Basel Miami Beach, an appropriate setting for such a vibrant, aquatic hue.
"In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy," says Pantone. "Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity."
The company thinks it's also a comfortable, optimistic hue that we can find in everyday life, both in the real world and on social media.
"Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities, and this is particularly true for Living Coral," says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
So throughout 2019, keep an eye out for the peachy hue, which will likely pop up everywhere, from home decor lines to fashion collections to your social media feeds.
