Amazon Is Working on a Fix for Alexa's Creepy Random Bursts of Laughter

Word around Twitter is that on rare occasions, Amazon's Alexa devices have been bursting out into seemingly unprompted laughter. Basically, it's like all of our nightmares about Siri and Alexa taking over the world come true. Shudder.

Amazon has told media outlets ranging from CNBC to BuzzFeed that "in rare circumstances, Alexa can mistakenly hear the phrase 'Alexa, laugh.' We are changing that phrase to be 'Alexa, can you laugh?' which is less likely to have false positives, and we are disabling the short utterance 'Alexa, laugh.' We are also changing Alexa's response from simply laughter to 'Sure, I can laugh,' followed by laughter."

Phew! At least a fix is on the way.
