Things You'll Need
Chain link gate
Placing a chain link fence around your property will protect your family, pets and the general public. Some insurance agents will even give you a discount on your homeowner's insurance for having this sturdy safety feature. The gate on your chain link fence is one of the most important concerns for the security of your metal boundary. A snug fit is essential for the proper function of your chain link gate.
Measure the top of your chain link gate with your tape measure. Measure the bottom of the gate to insure the gate is squarely built.
Add 3 3/4 inches to the longest of your gate measurements to get the total width of the gate opening to account for the hinge and latch widths. Remeasure both of the gate widths and add the 3 3/4 inches to the longest measurement again to double check your math.
Place a spot of spray paint on the ground where you want to place one side of the fence. Measure along the fence line and place a second spot of paint to match the measurement of your gate opening.
