How to Clean Bird Droppings Off of Fabric

Bird droppings are disgusting, and what's even worse is having to clean them off fabric. Whether you find bird droppings on your outdoor furniture fabric or on your clothes, removing the mess properly is important so you don't spread it and make it worse. Although cleaning bird droppings from fabric is not a pleasant task, it can be done quickly with the right materials and methods.

Remove bird droppings from fabric carefully so they don't spread.

Clothing

Step 1

Scrape as much of the droppings from the clothing as you can using a plastic spoon, taking care not to spread them.

Step 2

Fill a bucket with warm water. Add a laundry detergent containing enzymes to the water. Refer to the label for specific instructions on the ratio of detergent to water.

Step 3

Put the clothing in the water. Let it soak for a few hours.

Step 4

Take the clothing out and spray a laundry pretreatment spray on the spot. Launder the clothing as usual.

Step 5

Apply a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to the spot if the bird droppings are still there. Add a few drops of ammonia on top of the peroxide.

Step 6

Rinse the spot under cool, running water. Launder the clothing again as usual.

Upholstery

Step 7

Scrape as much of the bird droppings from the upholstery as possible using a plastic spoon, taking care not to spread them.

Step 8

Pour two cups of cool water into a bowl. Stir in one tbsp. of liquid dish detergent.

Step 9

Dip a clean rag into the soapy water and dab it on the spot. Blot with a clean, dry rag to absorb the liquid.

Step 10

Alternate blotting with the rag soaked in soapy water and then the dry rag, until all the bird droppings are gone.

Step 11

Apply a few drops of hydrogen peroxide and then a few drops of ammonia if the droppings remain. Blot the area with a rag and cool water, and then blot with a dry cloth to dry the fabric.
