How to Get Scentsy Wax off My Microsuede Sofa

Mary Ylisela

Scentsy brand wax is melted in a candle warmer to prolong the life of the wax. As a 25-watt bulb in the lower portion of the warmer melts the wax, the fragrance wafts through your room.

Use leftover brown paper bags to absorb wax stains.

Similar to other brands or homemade candles, when Scentsy wax is spilled on your microsuede sofa, the result is a gooey, oil-based stain. Microsuede's low maintenance needs makes it easy to clean, but candle wax must be removed carefully to avoid damage to the upholstery. With careful wax removal techniques and the right supplies, you can get a Scentsy wax stain off your microsuede upholstery.

  1. Cut a brown paper bag into pieces big enough to cover the Scentsy wax stain on your microsuede sofa.

  2. Lay one piece of brown paper over the wax stain. Warm your clothing iron to the lowest heat setting without steam.

  3. The iron's heat melts Scentsy wax into the brown paper.
  4. Press the warmed iron onto the brown paper for three to four seconds at a time. As the Scentsy wax melts and transfers to the brown paper, change to a new piece of the paper bag. Repeat this step to remove as much of the wax as possible.

  5. Wet a clean cloth with dry cleaning solvent to tackle the color portion of the Scentsy wax stain. Blot the microsuede with the solvent to lift the color and oily wax residue. Move to a clean portion of the cloth and continue to blot.

  6. Allow the microsuede upholstery to air-dry completely. Brush the sofa with a suede brush to blend and fluff the microsuede fibers.

Tip

As an alternate to transferring the wax off with an iron and brown paper, lay an ice bag on the wax to freeze it. Carefully pry the hardened wax off the microsuede before sponging the remaining stain with dry cleaning solvent. Substitute a 50/50 solution for the dry cleaning solvent to remove oily residue from the wax.

Warning

Use damp cloths only when cleaning microsuede. Too much moisture can damage the material.
