Help porcelain look fresh by removing brown water stains.

Old-fashioned clawfoot tubs and pedestal sinks give your bathroom a retro flair. However, the porcelain on these often antiqued fixtures can sometimes be covered in brown stains from prolonged hard water use. These brown water stains can be effectively removed if you apply a combination of a few items that can be found around the kitchen or purchased from any grocery store or supermarket.

Step 1

Pour 8 oz. of hydrogen peroxide into a bottle.

Step 2

Add in 4 tbsp. of cream of tartar. Shake the mixture to combine it thoroughly.

Step 3

Spread the mixture over the brown water stains on your porcelain fixtures using sponge. Allow the mixture to remain on the stains for at least 30 minutes.

Step 4

Wipe off the mixture using a wet washcloth. Repeat as necessary to remove any further water stains.
