How to Get Nail Polish Off Stuffed Animals

Accidents happen, and sometimes they happen with nail polish on a favorite stuffed animal. You don't have to write the toy off due to the tough lacquered stain. While it may seem tough to bring back a beloved toy back to its former, unblemished glory, it can be done. You just need the right method and some persistence. If the stain is fresh, keep it damp by spritzing it with water until you can use the techniques described here.

Bring a favorite stuffed animal back to "life" after a nail polish encounter.

Step 1

Scrape as much of the nail polish off as possible using a spoon or butter knife. Be careful to not pull out the fur of the stuffed animal or spread the stain.

Step 2

Blot the stain with a cotton ball or cloth soaked with nail polish remover. Repeat with a fresh cotton ball until no more nail polish is transferred from the stuffed animal. Gently scrub the area with laundry detergent and warm water. If after rinsing the stain is still there, repeat the nail polish remover treatment.

Step 3

Use a hydrogen peroxide-soaked cotton ball or cloth to dampen any remaining stain. Allow it to sit for at least half an hour before blotting dry with a cloth.

Step 4

Wash the stuffed animal with laundry detergent and warm water in a washing machine or by hand. If washing by hand, concentrate on the stained area. Allow to dry.
