Remove burn marks from tile in a few steps.

Burn marks left on tile are sometimes difficult to remove. However, you don't need to be a tile expert to remove a burn or scorch mark on tile. With just a few supplies and some basic instructions, you can easily restore your tile surface so it looks like new.

  1. Apply about 1 tsp. baking soda to the burn mark. Add about 1 tsp. water and mix it into the baking soda to cover up the burn mark.

  2. Gently scrub the burn mark with the baking soda and water mixture using a soft cloth or brush until it begins to fade. Repeat until the mark is almost gone. Rinse with water to remove the baking soda scrub. Dry with a soft, dry cloth.

  3. Run the fine-grit sandpaper over the surface of the burn to remove any residual markings. Do this very gently. Blend the edges of the burn mark into the tile with the sandpaper to remove any sign of the mark. If necessary, repeat steps 1 and 2.

  4. Apply one coat of tile polish over the burn mark using a soft cloth. Buff until it's absorbed well.

  5. Tip

If you are unable to completely remove the burn mark and if it's on your counter, consider covering it up. Make a large permanent hot pad with tiles or cover the section with a hot pad. You can also cover the area with a wood or solid surface cutting board.

    Warning

The use of any abrasive cleanser, such as baking soda, may dull the surface of the tile when you are trying to remove a burn mark. Applying a tile polish can help restore some of the shine and luster to the tile, but it may not restore all of it.
