Pet accidents can be hard to clean out of carpet. Even if you are able to remove the stain, it can be hard to get rid of the smell, and covering it up with perfumed cleaners does not prevent the pet from returning to the area again. You can use a natural method for cleaning carpets that will get rid of the stain and smell from pet accidents.

Step 1

Blot up any wet urine from the carpet as quickly as possible using a towel or several paper towels. Step on the towels to draw moisture out of the carpet. Repeat this until the spot is almost dry.

Step 2

Mix one part vinegar to one part water in a glass or spray bottle. Pour this mixture liberally over the accident and allow it to soak into the fibers. Vinegar will neutralize the odors.

Step 3

Blot up the vinegar solution with a towel. Step on it and repeat until the spot is almost dry.

Step 4

Cover the area with baking soda.

Step 5

Mix 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide with 1 teaspoon of dish soap. Work this mixture into the carpet. Allow it to dry thoroughly

Step 6

Vacuum up any remaining cleaner.
