How to Remove a Grease Stain From Cotton

Grease stains can be so easily acquired and so temperamental to remove. If you've already run it through the wash, you're sure to notice that it's still there. These stains require special care, but aren't impossible to remove. With a little time and know-how grease stains can be easily lifted as though they were never there at all. There are several proven methods that can save your cotton fabrics from grease stains.

Remove a Grease Stain From Cotton

Step 1

Apply a dish soap known for its grease cutting abilities such as Dawn directly onto the stain. Use a damp toothbrush to work the stain into the fabric and allow it to sit for five to 10 minutes before washing it.

Step 2

Sprinkle baby powder onto the stain and allow it to sit for two to three hours to draw the stain out of the fabric. Rub dish soap into the area and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes before laundering.

Step 3

Place the fabric into the sink and run hot water directly onto the affected area. Let it sit under the hot running water for at least five minutes and the stain should be gone. Let it sit under the faucet longer if necessary.

Step 4

Spray the stain with WD-40 and let it soak for five minutes. Scrub the area with dish soap and a clean cloth, and launder.
