Garlic is one of those ingredients that you either love or hate. Many people enjoy the spicy, heavy flavor of garlic, but the powerful scent of garlic does not appeal to some people. Whether it's preparing garlic or eating it, the oils and the powerful odor can get into your clothes. You can get rid of strong garlic smells in your clothes in just a few minutes using basic household items.
Load the washing machine with the clothes that smell strongly of garlic.
Add the appropriate amount of citrus-scent concentrated laundry soap for the load you are washing.
Sprinkle in half a cup of baking soda and set the washing machine to run for a normal cycle. Use hot water settings for light colors and whites, and cold water for darker clothing.
Monitor the progress of the machine through the cycle and lift the lid after it has refilled with water for a final rinse.
Add the remaining baking soda into the wash tub and leave the lid open so the clothes sit and soak for 10 to 15 minutes.
Close the lid and allow the rinse cycle to finish as normal. Clothes will come out smelling only of fresh citrus.
