When chewing gum is accidentally transferred to clothing items, you can have a sticky, stubborn mess on your hands. If you don't treat smeared gum on laundry properly, you can actually make the stain worse. Fortunately, you don't have to toss gum-smeared clothing into the garbage. You can remove the chewing gum by using a few simple techniques. Best of all, you also can use simple, inexpensive household items to solve your problem.
Place the clothing into a plastic bag.
Place the bag in the freezer overnight to harden the chewing gum.
Scrape off the gum with a dull butter knife the next morning.
Rub an egg white into the stained area to remove any remaining gum residue.
Mix equal parts white vinegar and dish soap and scrub the area thoroughly.
Launder the item as usual. If the clothing is dry-clean only, take it to a dry cleaner after freezing and scraping the gum.
