ReliOn cool mist, warm mist and ultrasonic humidifiers have the same basic parts as other manufacturer's brands – a water tank and base containing a water reservoir. Some models also have a demineralization filter to reduce the buildup of mineral deposits inside the reservoir. No matter your ReliOn humidifier model, these parts typically require the same general cleaning to remove bacteria, and descaling to remove mineral deposits, at least once a week.
Turn off your ReliOn humidifier. Unplug it from the electrical socket.
Remove the water tank from the base. Remove the tank cap, empty the tank, and then remove the filter cartridge if applicable. Pour the water in the base reservoir down the drain.
Fill a 1-gallon jug with water. Add 2 tbsp. of household bleach or hydrogen peroxide to the water. Cap the jug and shake it gently to mix.
Pour 2 cups of the solution into the water tank. Cap the tank and shake it vigorously for 30 seconds. Pour out the solution.
Refill the tank with fresh water. Cap it and shake it again for another 30 seconds. Pour out the water and smell the tank. If you used bleach and can still smell it, repeat the rinsing process until you can no longer smell the bleach.
Set the water tank aside to air dry.
Add 2 tbsp. distilled white vinegar to 2 cups water. Soak a lint-free microfiber cloth in the solution and gently wipe all surfaces inside the reservoir to remove mineral deposits. Rinse away the vinegar and residues with a water-only damp cloth.
Wipe the exterior of the base with a slightly damp cloth to remove dust. If your unit has a washable filter, rinse under running water to dislodge mineral deposits or soak the filter in the remaining vinegar and water solution for five minutes and then rinse.
Reassemble your humidifier. Plug it in and turn it on.
