How to Clean Your Dishwasher Naturally

Dishwashers need cleaning monthly to remove odors and bacteria that can develop in the dark, moist interior of the units. Keeping your dishwasher clean and odor-free ensures that it provides you with clean, sanitized dishes. When you clean your dishwasher, it's important to use natural cleaners to avoid transferring harsh chemicals to your cups, dishes, pots and pans and utensils at a later time.

Clean your dishwasher with vinegar.

Step 1

Scrub down the interior of the dishwasher with a sponge soaked in warm, soapy dish water.

Step 2

Pour 1 cup white vinegar into a bowl and place the bowl into the empty dishwasher; leave the racks dishwasher, but make sure no dishes are in the unit.

Step 3

Turn on a short wash cycle and let the dishwasher cycle complete. The vinegar will quickly clean, disinfect and deodorize the unit with practically no work necessary on your part.
