Restore the shine to granite with readily available household products.

Granite is used for several applications throughout homes, from kitchen and bathroom counter tops to flooring and wall accents. After time and continued use, a once-lustrous slab of granite will begin to look dull. The shine on granite counter tops can be restored with a homemade granite polish. The polish can be made with a few ingredients found your pantry or at a local grocery store.

Step 1

Clean the surface of the granite with a mild, all-purpose household cleaner, such as Simple Green or Formula 409. Wipe away the cleaner with a soft cloth.

Step 2

Pour 2 cups water, 2 tbsp. liquid dish soap, 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol, and 1/4 cup baking soda into a plastic spray bottle.

Step 3

Replace the bottle's top and shake it vigorously to mix all of the ingredients.

Step 4

Spray the surface of the granite with the homemade polish.

Step 5

Rub the polish into the granite with a soft cloth. Use a circular motion to work the polish into the granite more effectively.
