The Use of Vinegar to Kill Bees & Wasps

Annie Kluza

Bees and wasps can be a dangerous pest in and around the house. If you need to kill them, there are alternatives to toxic chemicals used in store-bought insecticide. Vinegar is an effective alternative with hundreds of uses, including attracting bees to traps.

Water Trap

Vinegar makes a good bait for water traps designed to capture and get rid of bees, wasps and hornets. Once they enter the trap, they are unable to get out and will drown. Add equal amounts of sweetened water and apple cider vinegar, and a drop of dish soap and add to the trap. Traps are available at home improvement or gardening stores, or they can be made at home.

Wasp Spray

White vinegar is a natural and easy alternative to kill wasps. Simply mix a cup of vinegar with a cup of water (or any equal amount) in a spray bottle and carefully spray the offending pests.

Warning

Always be careful when dealing with bees and wasps. If you are stung, vinegar can help there as well. Mix a paste of vinegar, baking soda and meat tenderizer, and apply to the affected area.
