Based on a recommendation of 8 hours of sleep per day, most people will spend about a third of their lives in bed. While a mattress pad is a good idea, sometimes a mattress either goes without, or becomes stained regardless. Use the following information to help remove stains from an otherwise perfectly good mattress.
Wet a terry cloth rag in a bucket of water and wring out the excess water until the rag is damp.
Rub the bar of soap across the damp rag. Use three or four quick strokes to brush the soap across the rag.
Start with a small section of the mattress, preferably where the stain is the worst. Working from the outside of the stain in toward the middle of the stain, rub the damp, soapy rag across the section in a circular motion, and then set the rag aside.
Use a clean cloth and dip it into the water in the bucket. Wring out the excess water until the cloth is damp and not saturated.
Wipe away the soap from the mattress. Take care to use a firm but gentle stroke; otherwise, the fabric of the mattress will become too wet.
Rinse out the cloth and set it aside.
Begin the process again on a second small section of the stain.
Be sure to rinse out the rag frequently in order to keep cleaning with a clean cloth.
Change the water as needed, and continue the process until the entire stain has been removed.
Use a clean towel to press the excess dampness out of the mattress.
Place the towel onto the former stain and step onto the bed, using the weight of your body to press the towel into the fabric of the mattress.
Repeat this process until the mattress is dry to the touch.
Allow the mattress to air for several hours before replacing the mattress pad and linens.
