My Bissel PowerSteamer Won't Spray

Meredith Jameson

The Bissell PowerSteamer is a carpet cleaner that uses hot water and cleaning solution to pull ground-in dirt and debris out of carpet, upholstery and other surfaces in the home. The PowerSteamer uses a two-in-one tank to combine the water and cleaning solution, which is activated using a trigger on the unit handle.

The cleaning solution then sprays onto the surface and the user pushes the PowerSteamer back and forth over the damp area. If the device will not spray cleaning formula when the tank is full, the lint screen or the pump belt could be the problem.

  1. Turn off and unplug the PowerSteamer.

  2. Remove the tank from the main unit and fill with clean, hot water to the fill mark on the side of the tank.

  3. Open and turn over the tank lid to locate the lint screen on its underside. Remove the lint screen and rinse it with cold water. Replace the lint screen and close the lid on the tank. Reseat the tank back into the cleaner and ensure it is positioned securely.

  4. Restore power to the PowerSteamer and turn it β€œOn.” Wait one minute and squeeze the spray trigger.

  5. If it still does not spray cleaning formula, turn the machine off and unplug it. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to open the latch on the belt access door located on the side of the unit. Remove the door and examine the pump belt for signs of damage or breakage. Contact Bissell for a new pump belt if it is broken. Do not use the PowerSteamer until the belt has been replaced.
