Glass top electric kitchen stoves give your kitchen a neat, clean look. They don't have unsightly drip pans and burners, and they cook with an even heat. While they may not require the deep cleaning that gas or coil electric ranges do, they do need careful attention. There are a few cleaning tips that you should follow when cleaning the glass top on an electric stove.
As soon as you are done cooking, watch for the hot surface light to go off. The hot surface light indicates that burning could still result from touching the stove. When it goes off, the stove will still be warm enough for easy cleaning but not so warm that burning is a danger.
Mix mild dish detergent with warm water in a small bowl.
Submerge the no-scratch sponge in the dish detergent, and then wipe the stove down. Since the surface is still warm, any spills or drips should not have hardened yet and will come off easily.
After sponging down the stove top with the soapy sponge, wipe it down with plain water.
Look over the glass stove top when it is cool. If you find a spot that needs cleaning, try using warm soapy water and a sponge. If the soapy water does not seem to work well, use a non-abrasive cleanser. There are special cleansers made for glass stove tops and you can find them in the kitchen department at any store.
Turn on the stove and let it warm up to its lowest setting. Warming up the surface will usually soften the debris that is stuck on the stove. After the stove has warmed up, turn off the burner. When the hot surface light goes off, repeat Steps 2 through 4 in Section 1.
Use a scraper to remove debris that will not remove easily with a sponge. There are scrapers specially designed for glass stove top surfaces, and you can find them in most department or home improvement stores.
After the debris is removed with the scraper, wipe down with a warm wet sponge.
