Handcrafted wooden bowls are a beautiful addition to your table, especially when used to serve salads. As with most handmade products, wooden bowls need special care to preserve their quality, safety and usefulness. Because wood is porous, it needs oiling to keep it from absorbing the flavors of the salads you serve.
Wash the bowl inside and out gently, using a non-abrasive cloth or pad, warm water and mild dish soap. Rinse the bowl well with warm water.
Dry the outside of the bowl with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Allow the bowl to completely air dry. Its color will be lighter when it's dry.
Apply one or two coats of mineral oil to your bowl at least once each week to prevent warping, staining or cracking.
Mix 3 tablespoons vinegar with 1 cup water and rinse the entire bowl with the solution to periodically sanitize your bowl. After this, wash and dry the bowl.
