Things You'll Need

  • Sage

  • Matches or lighter

  • Sea salt

  • Something to hold the salt in

Imagine the negative energy as a black cloud starting to dissolve as you smudge and salt. This will aide in the cleansing. Make sure you move counter-clockwise. Moving in a counter-clockwise motion removes whatever it is you want to go away. Moving in a clockwise motion invites the energy. You don't want that.

Over the years a home will build up negative energy. This is due to arguments, negative thoughts, suicides or any other "bad" occurrences that may have happened on the property. Things may have happened that you're not aware of. It's always a good idea to cleanse your home whether it be a place you've lived in for years or somewhere you've just moved into.

Step 1

Cleanse yourself. You can take a shower but it's not necessary. But you do need to sage yourself. Light a sage stick. Make sure to put out the flame when you're sure it's lit. When it begins to smoke, encircle yourself in the smoke beginning at your head all the way down to your feet. This is called "smudging."

As your doing this say, "Smoke of sage encircle me, rid me of negativity."

Step 2

Start at the farthest room in the back of the house. If you have more than one story house you want to start upstairs. Moving in a counter-clockwise motion walk around each room with the sage. Make sure to hit each corner and window. As you're cleansing each room say, "I see only pure reflected light, I am ridding this home of all bad luck and negative energy. O Blessed Be"

Chant as you smudge each room.

Step 3

Repeat the chant when you get to the front or back door of your home. While chanting, keep the door open and with your hands, make a sweeping away or sweeping out of the door motion.

Step 4

Go back to the original room you started in and begin to salt the house. If you don't have sea salt, ordinary table salt will do. Taking small pinches of the salt begin sprinkling the outer walls and corners. Remember to chant until your finished at the front or back door.
