The concrete around your pool should be as inviting and appealing as the pool itself. Imagine how nice the pool will look when the concrete around it is stained in a shade that compliments your home's exterior. Stain is available in a wide range of colors, leaving you with plenty of options for upgrading your pool. Staining concrete is a great way to improve the decorative landscape in your yard without the hassle and expense of tile or brick. Your pool will look brand new with its newly stained concrete deck.
Sweep up all small particles and debris from around the pool.
Mix trisodium phosphate and water according to manufacturer's directions. Submerge a mop into the solution and mop the area completely to remove all residues. TSP is a powerful cleaning agent. Rinse the concrete with clean water and let it dry completely.
Remove any stuck on substances with a metal scraper.
Put on goggles, rubber gloves and a mask. Mix one part acid stain with one part water. Cover any nearby walls and furniture with plastic sheeting.
Fill a plastic garden sprayer with the acid stain solution. Choose a sprayer with only plastic parts. Metal parts may react with the acid. Apply the stain to the concrete with a sweeping motion until the concrete is wet.
Scrub the stain into the concrete with a natural bristled brush. Let the concrete absorb the stain for 20 minutes.
Apply on a second coat of stain with the sprayer. Do not scrub the stain into the surface. Allow it to dry overnight.
Apply concrete sealer to the stained concrete with a short nap roller. Let the concrete cure for 48 hours.
