How to Unclog an Air Conditioner Drain With One Cup of Vinegar

The efficiency of an air conditioner is dependent on proper maintenance of the unit. A unit that is clogged fails to produce the full amount of cold air needed to keep a room cool. Common household items such as baking soda and vinegar can be used to unclog and free up a drain that is clogged. The vinegar reacts with the baking soda, causing foam. The foam helps push out clogged debris, dirt and dust in the air conditioner.

Step 1

Shake half a box of baking soda down the drain of the air conditioner.

Step 2

Pour 1 cup of vinegar down the drain following the baking soda. The drain will begin to bubble and foam.

Step 3

Wait for the drain to stop foaming.

Step 4

Flush the drain using hot tap water to unclog the drain.
