How to Reset the Change Oil Light on a Malibu

The Chevrolet Malibu's engine computer is equipped with an oil change reminder system that monitors driving conditions and engine rotations to determine when an oil change is needed. When the oil is changed, the oil change reminder light should be reset in order for the computer to accurately track when the next oil change must be done. Most mechanics or oil service technicians will reset the light when they perform the maintenance. If you change the oil on the Malibu yourself, or if a mechanic forgets, you can manually reset the oil change indicator light yourself.

Step 1

Turn the ignition key to the "on" position, without starting the Malibu's engine.

Step 2

Press and hold the "Info" and "Reset" buttons on the control panel for at least one second to display the "Oil Life Reset" message.

Step 3

Press and hold the "Reset" button for at least one second. "Acknowledged" appears on the display if the reset was successful.

Step 4

Turn the ignition key to the "off" position"
