Lighter fluid is a good home remedy for grease stains.

Step 1

Find an inconspicuous spot to test the lighter fluid because lighter fluid can take the color out of fabrics. The best way to check this is to blot a small spot on the inside of the fabric and then rub with a clean, white towel. If some of the color rubs off on to the towel, don't remove the stain with lighter fluid.

Step 2

Blot lighter fluid on the grease stain so that it covers the entire stain. If the stain is particularly large, you'll want to make sure that you keep the stained clothing article in a well-ventilated area.

Step 3

Use a soft cloth to rub the stain if it is of the heavier variety, such as oil. Light grease stains from cooking shouldn't need any additional rubbing.

Step 4

Throw the stained article in the washing machine and use hot water, if possible.
