If your vinyl roller shades are looking a little worse for wear or you want to add some color to a room, you can paint the shade to give it a fun, bold or colorful new look. Use a stencil to add a center design along the bottom. Paint a skinny shade one bright, bold color--such as red--or use painter's tape to add stripes to your shade. If you have a talent for painting, freehand it and paint a mural.
Remove the vinyl roller shade from the window, if necessary. Roll the shade out flat on a table. Clean the shade using a cloth, dishwashing liquid and water. Dry off the shade completely with a towel, or let it air dry.
Tape off the area for the design. Place a piece of painter's tape all the way horizontally across the shade to mark off the top of your intended design. Add tape to the area to create your design. Lay tape vertically to create a striped blind, or tape a stencil to the bottom to add a detailed touch.
Apply the acrylic paint to the blind with a stiff-bristled brush. Paint the areas between the tape or inside the stenciled design. Repeat the process until you achieve the desired color and all intended areas are painted.
Let the paint dry completely.
Spray two to three coats of matte sealer onto the surface of the blind once the paint is completely dry to protect the paint from damage.
