Making Pinch Pleated Sheer Curtains
Choose your sheers. White sheers are always beautiful; they add light to a room while providing privacy. Whatever color you choose, be sure that the sheers will fit the window after the pleats have been added. Measure the width of the window and calculate how many pleats you will be adding. Most pleated panels come with either five or seven pleats. To keep it simple, these instructions will be for five pleats.
Lay one of the sheer panels out on a large flat surface. Find the seam that forms the pocket on the sheers at the top of the panel. Measure and cut a strip of pleater tape that will fit across the top of the sheer panel and pin it into place. Pleater tape comes with a string that is threaded through it and when pulled will make the pleats for you. With your sewing machine, sew the pleater tape to the sheer by following along the original seam on the bottom of the pocket. Repeat the process with the second sheer panel.
Lay the panels out again on a large flat surface. Measure how many inches apart you would like the pleats to be and mark them with a pin. While pulling the string on the pleater tape, use your fingers to form either two or three folds per pleat and pin them into place. Repeat this process across the top of the panel until you have all of your pleats in place. Now with a needle and thread, sew a few stitches through each pleat to hold them in place. Be sure to cut off any extra thread so that they will have a clean look.
