Bamboo is considered a renewable resource as it is the fastest growing wood product on our planet. Bamboo flooring is gaining in popularity because of its beauty and its eco-friendly material. There are many projects you can create with bamboo, such as fences, arbors, trellises and headboards. Making a bamboo headboard is a simple craft project that you can complete quickly and that will last for years.

Step 1

Find your bamboo canes or poles from a local supplier or by ordering from online merchants. You may also grow your own bamboo relatively quickly, depending on your climate and soil type. The number of canes or poles you will need depends on the desired width of your headboard and on the size of the poles that you select.

Step 2

Wrap the poles in masking tape wherever you plan to cut the bamboo. The tape will help prevent the bamboo from splintering. Cut the poles to the height you prefer for your headboard. Alternate the heights and widths of the canes for an interesting design, or make the poles one height for uniformity.

Step 3

Lay out the bamboo poles for your headboard on a flat surface. Cut twine in 2 feet lengths, two pieces of twine for every two canes of bamboo. Twine is a natural material that has traditionally been used when tying bamboo, but you could use rope, silk scarves or string, depending on the design you would like to create for your headboard.

Step 4

Place one piece of twine one third of the way from the top of your bamboo poles. Create a figure eight with the twine to join two adjacent bamboo poles together. Knot the twine securely in a square knot or whatever pleases you. Make another figure eight and knot two-thirds of the way down from the top of the same two bamboo poles. You can continue tying the bamboo together in this manner until you create the desired width of your headboard, or you can choose to stagger the placement of the knots for added interest. The knots can also be hidden behind the headboard if you prefer a more uniform surface.

Step 5

Attach the wall hooks to your wall and hang the headboard over the hooks. The twine will also act as a hook for your bamboo headboard.
