What Are Percale Sheets?

Percale is a term that is easy to decipher on sheet labels, as it refers to the construction of the material used. Percale sheets and pillowcases are woven very tightly into a durable pattern, typically with 200 threads per square inch. The material is not limited to 100-percent cotton but can be any type of thread, including linen, silk or a blend of polyester and cotton.

The Lowdown on High-End

Percale sheets are a high-end bedding product and are smooth, crisp, durable, breathable and easy to wash. They are cool to the touch, making them a good choice in warmer climates. Percale products have a matte finish rather than a glossy coating and are available either printed or plain. The term "percale" originated in the 17th century in France but the actual origins of the method are debatable.
