How to Install a Kenmore Washer Pedestal

Washer pedestals are a convenient way to store laundry products. Simply place the products in the drawer and close the drawer to keep things in place and out of sight. You can install a pedestal on your Kenmore washer yourself. Whether you have recently made a Kenmore washer purchase or you are updating the look of your laundry room, adding a washer pedestal to your Kenmore washer is a small project that can make a big difference.

Step 1

Disconnect the power cord of the Kenmore washer from the wall outlet. Turn off the water supply to the washer at the spigots on the wall. Place a bucket near the rear of the washer and disconnect the two water supply hoses from the back of the washer. Set the hose end into the bucket to catch residual water in the hoses.

Step 2

Pull the washer away from the wall and out of the way so you have room to place the pedestal. Lay a large piece of cardboard or sheet on the floor next to the washer. Have your helper aid in placing the washer on its left side, resting the side on the cardboard or sheet to protect the finish.

Step 3

Use a wrench to loosen the retaining nuts securing the feet to the bottom of the washer. Unscrew the feet and place all four in a safe place in the event you want to reinstall them at a later time.

Step 4

Pull the drawer completely out of the pedestal frame. The drawer may have a lift lever on the left track that you will have to pull up with your fingers to release the drawer from the pedestal.

Step 5

Place the top of the pedestal directly to the bottom of the washer with the drawer opening facing the front of the washer. Insert the retaining screws through the corner holes in the bottom of the pedestal and thread the screws into the washer where the feet were. Hand-tighten all of the screws first before tightening them down completely with the Allen wrench that comes with the pedestal kit.

Step 6

Attach the pedestal feet to the bottom of the pedestal. Thread the rear feet into each rear corner and tighten with a wrench. Thread the two front feet into the front corners, but only tighten hand-tight.

Step 7

Lift the washer, with the assistance of your helper, back to the upright position. Slide the washer and pedestal combination back to where the washer goes. Install the water supply hose back on the rear of the washer.

Step 8

Insert the pedestal drawer back into pedestal and slide the drawer closed. Use the wrench to adjust the front legs until the washer and pedestal have equal weight distribution on all four feet. Plug the washer power cord back into the wall outlet.
