How to Repair the Dryer Belt on a Stackable Washer and Dryer

A stacking washer and dryer is the ideal solution for homes where space is limited. The design allows both units to occupy the space of a single unit. The belt on the dryer is usually under a great deal of strain. This is because clothing is extremely heavy when wet. The result is a broken dryer belt that you will need to replace.

Repairing a dryer belt on a stacking washer and dryer is not difficult.

Step 1

Pull the stacking washer and dryer away from the wall. Unplug the power cord from the electric outlet. Turn off the water supply valves to the washer. Disconnect the water supply hoses from the unit. Use the pliers to loosen the fittings if necessary.

Step 2

Clean any water spillage up using the old rags. Remove the screws from the rear panel of the dryer using a screwdriver. Pull the panel away from the rear of the dryer and set it aside. Be careful, since the edges of the panel may be sharp. Remove the old belt from inside the dryer. Clean any lint from inside the dryer.

Step 3

Place the new belt over the groove in the dryer drum. Run the belt through the tension pulley at the bottom of the dryer and connect the other end of the belt to the drive motor. Push in on the tension pulley as necessary to give you enough slack to connect the belt to the drive motor.

Step 4

Install the cover on the back of the dryer. Secure the cover using the screws and a screwdriver. Connect the water lines to the machine and turn the valves on. Plug the unit into the electrical outlet. Push the stacking washer and dryer against the wall. Turn the dryer on to test the new belt.
