How to Change the Water Filter on Frigidaire Refrigerator

Frigidaire refrigerators often include a built-in ice maker, as well as an ice and water dispenser on the door. The water from which the ice maker creates ice is filtered by an internal filter inside the Frigidaire refrigerator. The filter must be changed every six months to ensure the best tasting water and ice, and it is designed to be easily changed, without the need for a service technician.

Step 1

Open the freezer or refrigerator door -- depending on your model -- and turn the power switch on the ice maker to the "Off" position.

Step 2

Locate the water filter, which is located in the top-right corner of the refrigerator.

Step 3

Press in on the end of the water filter cartridge to release it, then slide it out of the cartridge holder.

Step 4

Align the new filter with the notches in the cartridge holder, then press the filter in until it snaps into place.

Step 5

Press a glass against the water dispenser so that water is dispensed, ensuring there are no leaks at the water filter. If there are any leaks, the filter is not inserted far enough.

Step 6

Continue to flush the water dispenser for approximately four minutes to introduce water into the filter.

Step 7

Return the ice maker power button to the "On" position, then press and hold the "Water Filter" button on the ice and water dispenser control panel for approximately three seconds to reset the filter warning light.
