How to Troubleshoot a GE Profile Refrigerator That Is Not Cooling

GE Profile refrigerators come in both side by side and top or bottom freezer models. A range of situations can lead to the refrigerator not cooling adequately. Diagnosing the possible causes of the cooling problem is the first step of the troubleshooting process. Many common issues preventing a refrigerator from cooling can be resolved by the owner once they have been identified.

Step 1

Set the temperature control to a colder setting. Make sure the control is not set to "Off."

Step 2

Push the electrical plug all the way into the outlet. If the plug is not fully inserted, the refrigerator will not operate.

Step 3

Unplug the refrigerator and plug it back in. This resets the unit if it was in showroom mode.

Step 4

Inspect the door for any obstructions. Remove or move any food packages that are blocking the door from closing fully.
