Clean an Igloo cooler properly to keep it in good condition.

Cleaning the coolers properly will ensure that they last a long time, and will protect you from dangerous bacteria.

Tip

Wipe the inside of the cooler with a washcloth dampened with vanilla extract to remove any lingering odors. You can also dampen a paper towel with vanilla extract and leave it inside the cooler overnight.

Warning

Always test cleaning solution on inconspicuous areas on a soft cooler to ensure that the detergent does not damage the fabric.

Never machine-wash soft coolers because this can damage the heat sealing and seams.

Do not place coolers inside a dishwasher. The water can cause the foam between the body and the liner to deteriorate.

Hard Coolers

  1. Remove all foods, beverages and containers from inside the cooler.

  2. Wipe the Igloo cooler down with warm water and a mild dish detergent. This will remove light dirt and stains from the cooler. Wipe the cooler with a damp washcloth to remove the soap solution.

  3. Combine an equal amount of baking soda and water in a container to create a paste. Apply the paste to tougher stains with a washcloth and allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse the baking soda solution off the cooler with a clean and damp washcloth.

  4. Combine nine parts of water with one part bleach in a container. Dampen a washcloth with the solution and wipe the cooler down to remove any lingering odors.

  5. Dry the cooler completely with a towel before you store it. Leave the drain plug open on the cooler to allow any moisture to escape.

Soft Coolers

  1. Remove all foods, beverages and containers from inside the cooler.

  2. Combine 2 tbsp. of a mild detergent with 1 qt. of water in a container.
