SSA and SRT computer files contain subtitle information that is designed to be played alongside a video clip. SSA files represent a specific type of format, while SRT files are essentially basic text files and are designed for more general use. If you want to convert a subtitle file from the SSA format to SRT, you can do so using a native program for Windows.
Right-click on the SSA file you want to convert. Click "Open With" and "Notepad." The context of the SSA subtitle file will open in a new Notepad window.
Click "File" and "Save As" at the top of "Notepad." The "Save As" dialog box will open. Click inside the box labeled "Save as Type" and select "All Files."
Type your desired file name for the subtitle file into the "File Name" box. After the file name, type ".srt" (without quotes). Your file name should read "[filename].srt" with no quotation marks.
Click "Save." A new SRT file containing the same subtitle information as the original SSA file will be created on your computer.
