How to Troubleshoot a Vicks Ultrasonic Humidifier

Vicks Ultrasonic Humidifiers should produce a steady stream of water mist as long as everything is maintained and functioning properly. When problems with mist production occur, you can perform troubleshooting steps to identify the cause of the problem. Once you have identified the problem, it may be possible to correct the issue without having to contact a technician. If the troubleshooting steps do not correct the problem, contact the manufacturer.

Step 1

Check the tank to make sure there is enough water in it. Fill the tank to the water fill line.

Step 2

Make sure the humidifier is on a level surface.

Step 3

Clean the nebulizer and water sensor to remove any mineral deposits. Use a soft cloth with a small amount of white vinegar to wipe the parts clean. If mineral deposits will not remove from the nebulizer with regular cleaning, soak the nebulizer in a half water, half white vinegar solution for one hour. Rinse with water and wipe it dry.

Step 4

Check the demineralization cartridge for clogs by removing the cartridge and running the machine. If the mist improves with the cartridge out, replace the cartridge with a new demineralization cartridge.

Step 5

Allow a newly installed demineralization cartridge approximately 15 minutes for water to saturate it before mist production will resume.
