How to Calibrate Hotpoint Oven Temperature

Hotpoint is a low-end brand of appliances manufactured by General Electric. The company manufactures many types of residential appliances, including refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves and ovens. Like most ovens, Hotpoint ovens have an oven sensor installed in the oven cavity. The oven sensor detects the internal temperature of the oven, which determines when the heating elements turn on and off during the baking process. You should periodically calibrate the oven to ensure that the internal temperature is equal to the temperature set on the oven control knob.

Determine True Tempurature

Step 1

Turn the oven on to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place an oven thermometer in the oven on the middle rack.

Step 2

Turn on the oven light using the light switch on the control panel and look through the glass window at the temperature read-out on the thermometer to determine the oven's true internal temperature.

Step 3

Open the oven door and quickly look at the thermometer if your Hotpoint oven does not have a window, or if you can not read the read-out on the thermometer.

Adjust Oven Tempurature Knob

Step 4

Turn off the oven and then pull the temperature knob straight off of the post.

Step 5

Loosen the two screws now visible on either side of the temperature knob post. Only turn each screw one turn to loosen.

Step 6

Move the pointer above the temperature knob post to the left to increase the temperature of the oven. Move the pointer to the right to decrease it. When moving the knob, move the pointer line to the temperature line marking the number of degrees to increase or decrease the temperature.

Step 7

Tighten the screws and then push the knob back onto the temperature knob post.

Adjust Digital Tempurature Control Panel

Step 8

Turn off the oven and then press and hold the "Bake" and "Broil Hi/Lo" buttons simultaneously for three seconds, until the display reads "SF."

Step 9

Press the "Bake" button.

Step 10

Use the "+" button to increase the temperature and use the "-" button to decrease it. Each time the button is pressed, the temperature increases or decreases by one degree.

Step 11

Press the "Start/On" button to save your changes.
