How to Use the Brita Pitcher Counter

Some Brita water pitchers, known as Smart Pitchers, feature a filter change indicator counter with an on-screen alert system that advises you when it's time to replace the Brita water filter. This system doesn't monitor the filter to determine if it no longer works. Instead, it counts down from the first day you set the counter until approximately two months have passed – the Brita estimated time frame for filter end of life, based on 40 gallons/151 liters of filtration. Using the filter change indicator counter isn't difficult, and it sets up quickly with the push of a button.

Step 1

Push down on the "Start" button on your Brita Smart Pitcher filter change indicator unit until you see four flashing bars on the display – typically, within five to 10 seconds.

Step 2

Look at the bottom right corner of the display for a flashing dot that indicates you've successfully set up the counter.

Step 3

Check the indicator regularly to determine when the filter requires replacement. One bar should disappear from the display approximately every two weeks as the unit counts down. When only one bar appears on the display, buy a new water filter.

Step 4

Replace the filter when the bars have disappeared entirely and the display shows a flashing arrow.

Step 5

Repeat the process to reset the filter change indicator counter.
