My Frigidaire Freezer Is Not Freezing

Frigidaire freezers are popular among homeowners, but can quickly become a point of contention when you come home and find a freezer full of food rapidly defrosting. If your freezer has stopped keeping your food frozen, it needs to be examined. Sometimes, you will be able to solve the problem, but other times, you may need to call a technician.

Check that your freezer is still plugged in.

The first thing you should always do when you find that your Frigidaire freezer isn't freezing properly is to check the electricity supply. There are times when the cord may have accidentally gotten pulled from the outlet, and after a short period of time, the items in the freezer will begin to defrost. Keep in mind that once a freezer has defrosted, it takes 24 hours to completely cool down again.

Temperature Setting

What is your temperature set at?

Ensure that the temperature setting is not turned to the off position. The temperature adjustment control is typically found inside the Frigidaire freezer. It may be a digital panel or a rotary knob that controls the interior temperature, but it will depend upon the exact model of your freezer. If the temperature setting is turned to the off position, the freezer will not work.

Freezer Compressor

Check to be sure your compressor is still functioning properly.

The compressor may be out of order if your Frigidaire freezer does not appear to be working at all. To determine if the compressor is working, look behind the freezer, usually near the bottom. There should be a rectangular shaped box attached to the freezer. If you cannot feel any vibrations or warmth from the compressor when you lay your hand against it, then you should call a technician.

Self-Defrosting Control

Your self-defrosting control could be malfunctioning.

The self-defrosting control of your Frigidaire freezer may be malfunctioning. Typically, a freezer will defrost itself three to four times during a 24-hour period, but if the self-defrosting control is not working properly, the freezer will continue to try to cool instead. This leads to a buildup of frost on the evaporator coils behind the back panel of your freezer, where you cannot see. To test the self-defrosting control, remove all perishable foods from the freezer and leave the door open for 24 hours to manually defrost the freezer. Once this is done, close the door and allow the freezer to cool down completely. If the freezer is still not freezing properly, you will need to call a technician to repair the self-defrosting control.
