How to Use Frigidaire Self-Cleaning Ovens

A Frigidaire self-cleaning oven cuts down on the amount of time you have to spend in the kitchen. The timed cooking cycles allow you to choose your settings and walk away to get other tasks done while the food cooks. Once you are done baking or broiling your food, you can switch the oven to self-cleaning mode and it will burn off any debris that is left on the interior walls.

Baking

Step 1

Select the "Bake" mode on your control panel. If you have an older Frigidaire self-cleaning oven, you may have to press in the dial as you rotate it to select the cooking mode.

Step 2

Adjust the up and down arrows to set the temperature or press in and turn the temperature dial, whichever is applicable to your oven. Press the "Start" button and wait for the oven to preheat. Once the buzzer sounds to alert you that the oven is ready, open the door, set your food on the baking rack and close the door.

Step 3

Hold down the "Timer" button until the oven beeps. Use the up and down arrows to set the appropriate time for your food. Five seconds after you stop pressing the arrow keys, the timer will begin to count down.

Step 4

Press the "Off" button or turn the dial to the "Off" position once the buzzer sounds to indicate that the food is done cooking. Open the oven door, remove the food and close the oven door.

Broiling

Step 5

Assemble the two halves of a broiler pan and place your food on top of the grid. Open the oven door and adjust the cooking rack to your desired height. Place the broiler pan on the rack and close the door.

Step 6

Press the "Broil" button on the control panel or press in and turn the dial to the "Broil" position.

Step 7

Turn on the oven light to check your food's progress as it broils. When one side is browned, open the oven door and use metal tongs or a spatula to flip the food over. Close the door and wait for the other side of the food to cook.

Step 8

Open the door and remove the broiler pan once your food is finished cooking. Press the "Off" button or turn the dial to the "Off" position to turn off the oven's broiler element.

Cleaning

Step 9

Remove the metal baking racks and any cookware from the inside of the oven. Wipe down the oven to remove any large spills. Even though the oven's self-cleaning mode can burn these off, it will create an excessive amount of odor and smoke during the process.

Step 10

Close the door and press the "Clean" button to start the self-cleaning cycle. The door will automatically lock during the cycle.

Step 11

Let the oven cool off for at least a half-hour after the end of the cleaning cycle. Open the door and wipe down the interior of the oven with a damp cloth. Replace the baking racks and shut the oven door.
