A garbage disposal is a wonderful appliance, making after-meal cleanup a little easier. It grinds up many different food scraps from plates, pots and pans, but it's not meant to dispose of large amounts of any food, especially vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, bones, oils and fats, and stringy, fibrous vegetables. If your garbage disposal is clogged, get rid of it with a couple of safe products you likely already have in your kitchen and an old-fashioned plunger.
Stop up the other sink if you have a double sink.
Run some hot water in the sink if there's room. Add 1 cup of white vinegar and then 1 cup of baking soda. It will instantly fizz up. Allow to sit for 5 minutes.
Work out the clog with a plunger.
