My Whirlpool Dishwasher Has No Power and the Panel Is Not Lighting Up

Whirlpool dishwashers offer many features, including the ability to sanitize dishes, adjust the wash cycle according to soil level and load size, and lightly clean glasses or small loads. However, if the control panel is not lighting up and the dishwasher does not seem to have power, none of these dishwasher features will be very useful. Users might find that the issues can be fixed through some troubleshooting.

Power Disruption

The most likely reason that your Whirlpool dishwasher has no power and the control panel is not working is if a problem with the power supply. Find the power cord and see if it has come loose from the power outlet. Push it in completely and consider moving other appliances from that outlet to a different one. Reset or replace the circuit breaker or fuse, especially if there was a recent power outage.

Motor Overload

Whirlpool dishwashers are equipped with a motor overload protector, which shuts the dishwasher off if the motor is in danger of overheating. The motor will restart automatically within a few minutes of shutting off. If it does not, disconnect power and wait 30 seconds before reconnecting.

Dishwasher Operation

Sometimes basic operating steps can be overlooked, making it seem as if the dishwasher has lost power. Ensure that the door is closed tightly and latched into position and the "Power" button has been pressed. When the door is closed firmly and the power is on, the control panel should illuminate and controls may be selected.

Delay Start or Control Lock

If the "Delay Start" feature is selected, the dishwasher will seem as if it is not operating until the start time is reached and the dishwasher begins operation. If "Delay Start" has been chosen, press "Cancel/Drain" to cancel the cycle. If the "Control Lock" feature is selected, none of the pads on the control panel will function. Press and hold "Heat Dry" for four seconds to unlock this feature.

If these troubleshooting steps do not work and the dishwasher remains without power, try to reset the dishwasher by unplugging it for 30 seconds then plugging it back in. If it does not resume normal functions when the power is reconnected, call Whirlpool for service assistance.
